Mandatory for lovers of art and highlander culture and an excellent alternative when the weather is bad.
The Tatra Museum was founded by the Tatra Museum Society in 1889 (one of the oldest regional museums in Poland). It collects works of art, natural specimens, ethnographic materials, archival and library materials.
The collections are exhibited in permanent exhibitions in the main building at Krupówki and in branches, including:
- 20th Century Art Gallery in the Oksza villa The permanent exhibition "Artists and Art in Zakopane" presents the work of the Zakopane artistic colony until 1939, when Zakopane was the center of artistic and intellectual life of Poles, including: architecture and ornamentation in the Zakopane style, a collection of portraits by Witkacy, paintings by Rafał Malczewski.
- Museum of Zakopane Style - Inspirations Permanent exhibition in the 19th-century Gąsieniców Sobczaków cottage, showing the sources of Witkiewicz's Zakopane style (construction, furnishing of highlander cottages) - Koliba Villa (in the picture) Architecture and interiors in the Zakopane style.
- Władysław Hasior Gallery - Art Gallery on Kozińcu (temporary exhibitions) - Kornel Makuszyński Museum The writer's apartment with many valuable works of art and memorabilia. - Chochołów Uprising Museum Permanent exhibition: the 1846 Chochołów Uprising in ethnographic interiors from the mid-19th century.
